Michael Sweeney

Michael is a native of Stephenville, Texas who moved to the Dallas area in 2002. He earned his Master of  Arts in Biblical Counseling at Dallas Theological Seminary in 2008 and has been a fully Licensed  Professional Counselor since 2011.

He began his counseling career at Gaston House, helping young men transition from inpatient substance  abuse treatment to an established life in sobriety. This experience prepared him to accept a position  with The Right Step as a residential therapist and coordinator of an Intensive Outpatient program for  adolescents and adults. Following this, Michael worked at Innovation360 where he counseled individuals  and families, advocated for clients and helped begin an IOP program. He helped found Magnolia  Counseling Group in 2017.

While he has counseled many types of clients with varied struggles, Michael’s past experience gives him  a unique perspective in helping others manage life adjustment. His areas of interest in counseling include  the struggle to find purpose, managing anxiety and OCD, and improving relational communication, often  through pre-marital and couples’ counseling. Michael’s goal with all clients is to help them find what  makes them unique, to identify messages from past experiences and relationships, and to realize each of  us has worth and value.

Michael has lived in the Lake Highlands area of Dallas since 2007 with his wonderful wife, daughter and two sons.

"Failure is just part of the process, and it’s not just okay; it’s better than okay. "
